Farmland Management and Practices
- Primary Tillage System: *
- We follow JM Fortier's system in setting up beds. We use a BCS with plow attachment to build beds. After initial bed construction, minimal tillage follows.

- Our primary weed problems are Bahia grass and miscellaneous weeds. To control weeds, we add a layer of hay or straw on our beds once seeds/transplants are planted and in our walkpaths. On top of the hay on our walk paths we will add a layer of wood chips. Around the perimeter of our field we laid a layer of landscape fabric.
- Describe your primary insect challenges AND methods of control. Do not answer "none". You MUST indicate either actual pest challenges and/or LIKELY challenges, and you must ALSO indicate how you manage (or would manage) them. If you indicate a product, also specify how often it's used. *
- Our primary insect challenges are Mexican Bean Beetles for squash and eggplant and hornworms for tomatoes. We have co-planted marigolds and basil with many of our plants to naturally deter pests and bring in pest predators. Once every two weeks or so, we spray a mix of Dyna-Gro Neem Oil, Safer-Gro Natural Wet (Yucca extract), and water.

- Our disease challenges so far have been minimal. We have experienced some leaf rot on tomato plants. The solution has been to removed infected leaves to prevents spreading. We will rotate crops to prohibit fungal spread.

- Please describe your buffer. Be as specific as possible. On all sides, how far is it from your crops to the next closest use (road, conventional crop, residential yard)? Be sure to specify what is grown on neighboring land that is in agricultural use. For example: To the north and east, a wooded area of at least 100 yards separates us from the neighbor's corn fields, to the south is a fallow field at least 100 yards deep separating us from the road, and to the west about 60 feet separates our crops from a field where conventional corn and soybeans are grown. *
- The northern edge of the crop field is over 500 feet from the road, between which is a wooded area. To the east, the neighbor's cow field is over 800 feet away. Over forty acres of woods border the south part of the field. To the west of the field are over 1000 ft of woods.
