Types of Farming & Expertise

Please check the box corresponding to the types of operations with which you have at least three years of experience.

What type of training have you received in farming practices (on-farm and off-farm)? *
All of my training has been from books, on-farm experience, and trial & Error. I have been growing vegetables and plants since I was a kid.
Please briefly describe your experience with mentoring, training, or advising other farmers, if any.
I have worked with the Master Gardeners in Fluvanna county with tours and programs. I have had many new farmers come to visit the farm for a tour and some different ideas. I also worked for Hilton Hotels in management for 15 years. Training, coaching, and mentoring are strengths that have carried over to my life as a farmer.
What aspect of your farming operation are you most proud of? *
My variety of Asian cabbages and my salad mix.
What aspect of your farming operation are you most known for? (This could be a particular crop beloved by customers or an uncommon production method that other farmers would appreciate.) *
We are most known for our pork....but salad mix in the vegetable world.
What do you appreciate about Certified Naturally Grown?
I love that I will have the opportunity to speak with so many different farmers all over the country. I love the fact that I am inspected by another farmer as this allows for a learning environment for all who are involved in any single inspection. You cannot buy knowledge like this anywhere. The community involvement is great for transparency and builds credibility.
You may use this space to tell us anything else you think we should know.
You guys seriously have done an amazing job putting this training together and I for one am grateful for the opportunity.
