Farmland Management and Practices

- All manure is produced on our farm. We use a deep litter method for the animals. Animals are put into winter confinement in the fall, then we deep litter through the rainy season. Earliest animals can go on pasture is April 1st. Manure is then piled and turned from April until fall. In the fall it is put on the garden and pastures and then cover cropped. We classify any product containing fecal matter as raw manure and follow the 120 day rule.

- buttercups are the biggest issue. We mow them down aroudn the peremiter of the gardens. If they are in the garden we use the flame thrower or manually remove them.

- slugs. We use Sluggo which is OMRI listed. We only use it if there are signs of slugs and an application usually lasts a good 6 weeks or so.

- powderly mildew. We use OMRI listed neem oil and treat according to the directions on the container. Usually we don't have a problem because if we see a warm dry weather pattern following by a wet still weather pattern we make sure to keep the plants well hydrated and reduce the stress on them. In the fall when they get powdery mildew its usually a sign that they are done so they are pulled and disposed of.

Seeds, Transplants and Buffers

Be sure to specify what is grown on neighboring land that is in agricultural use. For example: To the north and east, a wooded area of at least 100 yards separates us from the neighbor's corn fields, to the south is a fallow field at least 100 yards deep separating us from the road, and to the west about 60 feet separates our crops from a field where conventional corn and soybeans are grown. *
- To the south is a church, we have at least a good 25' of native grasses, grassed waterway, native plants, and young trees beween them and garden 1. to the west is another 100' of native grass and young trees before you get to the road. to the North is a fallow field, and between that field and the gardens is a good 200' of our property. To the East is all trees and native grasses.
