Digging in the Dirt, a Schoolyard Garden
Surf City, New Jersey
Our "Digging in the Dirt" project's focus is on healthy eating and increased physical activity. Plant-based education is cross-curricular and can easily be utilized in nutrition, science, mathematics, language arts, social studies, instructional technology, physical education, art and music. Our schollyard garden includes a Digital Garden Trail featuring various QR Codes that allow garden visitors to scan 4 different QRC signs that will provide garden info to be displayed on a Smartphone. This interactive addition will potentially educate visitors on the importance and value the CNG Schoolyard Garden has to the students, teachers and community. Many thanks to our supporters: AtlantiCare's Healthy Schools, Healthy Children LBI PTA LBI BOE Visit us at: www.DiggingInTheDirt.org
We have pursued the Certified Naturally Grown inspections because the CNG growing standards are easily incorporated into curriculum ties and CNG growing standards help to ensure a safe product and safe venue for student to consume fruits and veggies in our schoolyard garden.
